Satyam Foundation: HIV/AIDS Forum
According to the United Nations, more than 40 million people are infected with HIV—26 million of them are between 15 to 49, the prime of their working lives. More than 5 million infected people live in India. HIV is an epidemic in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Manipur, and Nagaland. The estimated number of HIV-positive people in Andhra Pradesh is 568,000—10 percent of India’s infected populace.
Young people are at persistent risk for HIV infection. Both males and females are vulnerable, but social constructs give affect patterns of vulnerability between the sexes. In this context, Satyam Foundation began educating Satyam Associates on HIV/AIDS, and its consequences. This led to the building of a program at the state level.
