HP Software Universe
The second HP Software Universe was held at Las Vegas, Nevada, from 16 – 19 June 2008. This conference is one of the biggest conferences ever held by HP.
More than 2,315 customers and partners from 875 companies in 40 countries attended the conference. There were 41 sponsors of the likes of Novell, SAP, Birlasoft, Infosys, Wipro, Oracle, Cognizant etc.
Through track sessions, roundtable discussions, and combined HP Software Solution Center and Partner Showcase, HP brought together the information required to evaluate HP’s expanding BTO, BIO and OpenCall portfolios and to determine what part their solutions can play in optimizing the business outcomes.
HP Chairman and CEO Mark Hurd welcomed attendees to the conference. He was joined by HP Software senior vice president Tom Hogan.
On the first day Partner Summit general session was held where discussions centered on HP partners and they had the opportunity to connect with the HP product specialists. Charles Neal, HP software VP of Alliances, channels and direct addressed the gathering and shared the global perspective on HP’s software strategy and 2007 performance. He also discussed the HP software market and sales model and how HP was exploiting opportunities with their partner ecosystem.
On the second day HP announced the launch of HP BTO for Operations, which adds innovations to their BTO portfolio that help HP customers make IT change more predictable; detect problems before they disrupt business operations; and implement the industry’s first truly federated, ITILv3-compliant configuration management system for more contextual, real-time information and more informed business decisions.
On the third and fourth day there were several parallel sessions where the HP product specialists shared their vision for HP business technology optimization across strategy, applications and operations, SOA offerings, business service management and the HP Universal Configuration Management Database, improvement in web application development processes and avoidance of security risks.
The event closed with a day of certification exams, technical enablement for HP partners, roundtables, demonstrations in the HP Software Solution Center and—the fun finale of the conference—a party with Grammy award winner Stephen Marley and American Idol runner-up Blake Lewis.
The next conference will be held during the same dates at the same venue in 2009.
