22 – 23 April, 2008
Satyam Technology Center, Hyderabad, India

Satyam, with ARC Advisory Group as Knowledge Partner, is organizing a two day workshop on Value Engineering. This Workshop offers in-depth learning opportunities by recognized experts.

Value Engineering Workshop provides a forum to discuss and promote the application of Value Engineering principles in reducing cost, improving functionality & product quality. The session would cover concepts, best practices and case studies from Satyam’s experience in working with global customers & developing cost effective global products. The workshop would be application oriented & hence the participants would be able to apply the learning in their organization during the design phase or after the product has entered production.

Value engineering experts from IES along with guest faculty from leading global industries would be taking up sessions during the workshop.

Agenda

Why Value Engineering

Product Manufacturing Companies spend their maximum efforts on creating new products, which have improved performance, are safer and more environment friendly with enhanced features. While the majority of efforts are spent on New Product Introductions, the existing product loses its value over a period of time. For example, an existing product which was launched a year back loses 5 % value due to Price erosion (created by the competition), 5-7 % due to Material Inflation and 3-4 % due to Labor wage inflation. This means net margin contraction to the extent of 15 %. The only way to compensate this is to setup a value engineering process that looks at the products continuously for its value to customers and create opportunities to reduce cost keeping the similar performance /functionality.

History - Value Engineering

Value engineering began at GE during World War II. Because of the war there were shortages of skilled labor, raw materials, and component parts. GE looked for acceptable substitutes. They noticed that these substitutions often reduced costs, improved the product, or both. What started out as an accident of necessity was turned into a systematic process.

Who will Benefit?

  • Design Engineers
  • Project Leaders, Program Managers
  • Account Managers
